To the Editors:
COMMUNITY FORUM
At the forum at the Cleveland International Film Festival on Wednesday evening, April 5, following the showing of Ballot Measure 9, John Nolan publicly thanked David Wittkowsky and the Cleveland Film Society for annually including the "10 Percent Cinema" series in the Festival. All of the Cleveland community should join in that expression of thanks. Along with the other outstanding films worth seeing, this series makes the annual run of the Film Festival a valued asset to spring in Cleveland.
And its popularity has been proven. Nearly every one of the fifteen showings in the "10 Percent Cinema" series sold out or came close to doing so. It was hard to turn away the last people in the daily "rush" lines, but in those cases virtually every seat in the theatres was filled.
While the experience (or disappointment) of attending this year's Festival is fresh in readers' minds, they should make a mental note to prepare for the 20th Festival in April 1996. Plan to get a program guide early, order tickets in advance, stop at the Festival

Body Language invites all lesbian and gay organizations to post notices, fliers, pamphlets promoting their group or events of interest in our new Community Room. In our new digs at the northeast corner of West 115th and Lorain we now have a full room for community postings, where before we had only a hallway.

Having a bad day
To the Editors:
This letter is in response to Michael Reinhart's letter of April 7. Mr. Reinhart provides two points within his letter. One being his vague hypothesis of what may have contributed to the anti-gay reaction from the Clifton Web's personnel. The next assumption Mr. Reinhart states is that the Clifton Web is a strong supporter of the gay community.
First I will address the store personnels' apparent juvenile gesture toward Mr. Yorke and his companion. Mr. Reinhart justifies the action by the clerk, because she may have been having a bad day. To humiliate the customer, whether gay or straight, is not not conducive to a long lasting relationship with the customer. The fact that the incident had taken place leaves me to believe the store's policies towards gays and lesbians are lacking and does not reflect the business as being
a gay friendly institution.

The Gay People's Chronicle is dedicated to providing a space in the Ohio lesbian-gay community for all of its members to communicate and be involved with each other. This means that every Chronicle, to the best of its ability, will be equally dedicated to both men's and women's issues, as well as issues that affect the entire community. This balance will provide lesbians and gay men with a forum to air grievances and express joys.

AMFAR would be appropriate. I encourage the management to consider damage control, since this is not the first incident that I have heard about of anti-gay activities occurring at the Clifton Web.

Yorke was the one to have had a bad day. I don't believe that Mr. Yorke's disposition on that day is the issue or relevant. If Mr. Yorke felt enraged enough by the clerk's actions to write a letter to the Chronicle, I can't, as easily as Mr. Reinhart, dismiss this incident.
Mr. Reinhart states that the Clifton Web is a strong supporter of the gay community. He does not elaborate on how this store supports our community. The support I can see is the store provides gay paraphernalia. As stated by Mr. Reinhart. "Remember, we have the large disposable income that everyone wants a piece of."
As suggested by Mr. Yorke, I think in light of what has happened, a donation by the Clifton Web to the AIDS Task Force or

To the Editors:
In most of the discussions I have seen concerning same-gender relationships and religion, few if any address the needs of those who no longer participate in traditional religions.
Most religious discussion seems focused on attempts at reconciling Christianity with differences in sexual orientation.
Still, many lesbian, bi, and gay people have left religions they find oppressive.
As a result, questions such as 'where can a couple find a non-theistic union ceremony,' or 'where an individual can find a sense of community among other free thinking people' need to be addressed.
The Humanist Community of Central Ohio provides an alternative for those who prefer to think for themselves, to base knowledge on reason and evidence, and to affirm such values as justice and compassion.
Humanists make a bold challenge to the claims of the radical right and substitute a more democratic, scientific, and tolerant view which may be useful to many of your readers of all sexual orientations.
